The main event on Saturday night in Brooklyn was expected to see Ryan Garcia challenge for a world title for the first time in his career against WBC junior welterweight titleholder Devin Haney. That all changed when the fighters hit the scales on Friday.

Garcia missed the 140-pound limit by more than three pounds and did not attempt to drain himself anymore to make the limit. Instead, Garcia ranted on social media that he had no intention of even bothering to try and win the title while planning to knock out Haney with the extra advantage he'll carry from not cutting as much weight.

Haney, to his credit, has tried to keep calm all week in the face of Garcia's antics. His lone slip up came on Tuesday when the fighters faced off on top of the Empire State Building. Garcia said something that riled Haney up, leading to a slap and shove from the champion. The two then shared one of the most intense faceoffs after the weigh-ins on Friday. All that's left to do is settle it in the ring on Saturday.

The undercard does not feature much name value despite the big main event. The WBA interim flyweight title is on the line when John Ramirez takes on David Jimenez in the co-feature bout of the night. Arnold Barboza is set to take on Sean McComb in a junior welterweight contest. And Bektemir Melikuziev vs. Pierre Dibombe is set for a middleweight bout to open the PPV festivites.

Devin Haney will defend his WBC belt against Ryan Garcia in an all-American fight this weekend. The two will fight in a super lightweight bout at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, United States.

The Dream, unbeaten across his professional career to date, will face off against the challenger as he looks to extend his record, in what will be the first defense of his title since taking it against Regis Prograis after he moved up a division last December.

Despite both men hailing from California, it will be an East Coast clash. Garcia seeks to deliver an upset after his return to winning at the end of 2023, following a first-career loss to Gervonta Davis in Las Vegas a year ago.

Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia face off with near-flawless records, with just one loss across a combined 56 professional fights.

Haney is undefeated, having posted a 31-0 record so far. He most recently claimed the WBC super lightweight title, stepping up from his former weight as the unified lightweight world champion.

Garcia suffered only one career loss against Gervonta Davis last April. Still, he has otherwise forged an impressive career with a 24-1 record and has picked up several minor titles during his time in the ring.

Devin Haney last fought in December 2023, defeating Regis Prograis to claim the WBC super lightweight belt. It was the fighter’s first bout in the weight class, and he recorded an undisputed decision victory over a dozen rounds.

Ryan Garcia, meanwhile, was previously in the ring fighting Oscar Duarte in the same month. After his first career loss, he bounced back to winning ways with an eighth-round knockout to help set up this clash against Haney.

Haney and Garcia went 3-3 across six amateur bouts, and now the 25-year-old Americans meet as professionals for the first time. Before Garcia missed weight on Friday, the bout in Brooklyn would have marked Haney’s first defence of the WBC title, which he won with a clinic against Regis Prograis in December – one month after vacating the undisputed lightweight belts.

The champion will enter Saturday’s main event unbeaten, while Garcia has lost just once as a professional, suffering a body-shot stoppage by Gervonta Davis one year ago. Garcia bounced back in December, however, finishing Oscar Duarte.

"The Dream" beat former lightweight king Vasiliy Lomachenko in a close contest, and easily dispatched Regis Prograis to win super lightweigh gold.

Garcia has never held world gold in his career. The social media-savvy 25-year-old lost against Gervonta Davis in a super fight in April 2023 and looks to rebound in another super fight against Haney. With quick hands, Garcia is ready to use them against Haney’s high boxing IQ.
